Dash is not such a bad choice of name after all…..

I’ve just discovered that Queen Victoria had a dog whom she had named “Dash” as well.  It was not a labrador retriever, but a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  It was given to her as a girl and was her constant companion until it died in 1840.  Dash was buried in the gardens at Adelaide Lodge and the tombstone isa inscribed with the following message written by the Queen.

“Here lies Dash, the favorite spaniel of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, by whose command this memorial was erected. He died on the 20th December 1840 in his ninth year. His attachment was without selfishness, his playfulness without malice, his fidelity without deceit. Reader, if you would live beloved and die regretted, profit by the example.
